A-Level English Literature


Our distance learning A-level English literature course will give you a wide appreciation of and enthusiasm for some of the greatest literature, both poetry and prose, ever written. 

Aims of the course
The course aims to provide you with: the ability to write clearly and effectively; skills in developing arguments; skills in researching and managing information; the ability to analyse complex texts in different forms and styles. Questions will be set from the following texts:

The Syllabus
This course prepares you for the Cambridge A-Level syllabus 9695. The full Advanced Level qualification comprises AS and A-Level.

Assessment at AS Level is by two written 2 hour examination papers and A-Level likewise. We have chosen this syllabus as it is the most suitable for distance learners.

The Distance Learning Course
Your study text and your online learning file will contain everything you need to start studying right away, but you will need to acquire the set texts yourself. The course is designed specifically to cover the above syllabus. So you can be confident that you will learn everything you need to achieve a high grade in your coursework and in the examination.

Your Tutor and Your Assignments
Your tutor is your personal learning coach, who will be available throughout your course to provide you with detailed feedback on your assignments, and give you advice and encouragement throughout your course. You will complete assignments at regular intervals, which will help to embed your learning, and also enable you and your tutor to gauge your progress. 

Completing all your assignments will hugely increase your chances of a good exam grade. When you have completed each assignment, you send it to your tutor through our online learning management system for assessment. Your tutor will provide you with rapid and detailed feedback, so you'll remain motivated throughout the course and see your skills and knowledge improving month by month.
